Area Description
Ibiza boasts more than eighty beaches around its magnificent coastline; some are elusive, wild and utterly unspoilt, such as Pou des Lleo or the tiny Cala des Multons in the North East, while others such as Cala Llonga offer shallow translucent waters perfect for young families. True beach connoisseurs will love the tiny neighbouring island of Formentera which is irresistible, with Tahitian-turquoise waters backed by golden sands and fragrant umbrella pine trees. Whether you are looking for a long, sandy beach with a variety of leisure and sports facilities or a hidden cove only reachable by boat, Ibiza has something to surprise you....
The island of Ibiza has five areas: Eivissa, the capital, Santa Eularia des Riu, Sant Antoni de Portmany, Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, Sant Joan de Labritja. The northern end of the Ibiza is absolutly stunning with its unblemished acres of lemon and olive groves, green hillsides, water melon fields and rugged cliffs. At this World Heritage site, farmers still use ancient terracing to cultivate their crops and irrigation techniques introduced by the Arabs over a thousand years ago; peasants still divide their land with hand-built stone walls and fields in full blossom with explosions of wild mulitcolour flowers.
Ibiza is well known for its wild festivities throughout summer in San Antonio and Ibiza Town, where patying goes on throughout the night to early hours with people of every ages, creed and colour. However, unlike many other party resorts, Ibiza Town is a genuine community with great historical and architectural importance. Inside the old city walls of the d’Alt Vila, protected by an impressive drawbridge, there lies a picturesque maze of steep narrow streets squeezed tightly between towering ramparts. As the sun begins to set, the street markets and pavement cafés burst to life in an explosion of bright light and colour. Below the battlements and around the port, the evening becomes ever more astonishing and wonderful as Eivissa’s exhibitionists take to the streets to prance, cavort and entertain through the early hours.
Ibiza is blessed by a hot Mediterranean sun that is complimented with cool, refreshing sea breezes, making it the perfect place to either lie on the beach or explore inland. The pace of life for locals on Ibiza still remains relaxed and moves at a calm pace, providing the perfect pace for a holiday.
